We travelled yet again to the Swedish West Coast to take part in 2 shows, organised the same weekend by the same club. Judging were British breed specialists Ms Joanna Darby (CLASSICWAY) and Mr Mike Masters (MANCHELA). Letty and her older sister Kylie were entered. Kylie was not her normal self due to having to spend time in the crate with Letty, and this really showed in the ring, unfortunately. Lesson learnt: never do this again! Kylie was unplaced both days...

Letty on the other hand, once again behaved very nicely, apart from not eating properly for several days = VERY lean puppy! She won her class on Saturday under Ms Darby and was Best Puppy of Breed, later placed as 5th in the Best in Show final under Mr Eivind Mjaerum! Not too bad, given her huge lack of body... The following day she was placed 2nd with HP under Mr Masters. Overall, I'm very pleased.

Vi reste återigen till västkusten för att delta på 2 utställningar arrangerande samma helg av samma klubb. Domare var brittiska rasspecialisterna Ms Joanna Darby (CLASSICWAY) och Mr Mike Masters (MANCHELA). Letty och hennes storasyster Kylie var anmälda. Kylie var inte sitt vanliga jag eftersom hon fick sitta i bur med Letty och det speglades tråkigt nog i ringen. Lärdom: att aldrig göra så igen! Kylie blev oplacerad båda dagarna...

Letty däremot uppförde sig återigen bra, förutom att hon inte åt ordentligt på flera dagar = VÄLDIGT smal valp! Hon vann sin klass med HP på lördagen för Ms Darby, blev BIR-Valp och slutligen 5:a i Best in Show finalen för norske Eivind Mjaerum! Inte alls illa, med tanke på avsaknade av kropp... Följande dag blev hon 2:a med HP för Mr Mike Masters. Jag är nöjd, på det hela taget.

Las week I received a phone call from the vet at Strömsholm Animal Hospital who we saw the day Bruno had his operation. She informed me that as far as they could tell, the testicle tumour was benign (as there was a clear line between the testicular and cancer tissues) and these mostly do not result in metases. His spleen had lymphatic cell hyperplasia without symptoms of lymphoma or metases and was consequently also considered benign. We now keep our fingers crossed his remaining testicle has not lost its sperm producing function.

Förra veckan fick jag ett samtal från den veterinär på Strömsholm Djursjukhus vi träffade den dagen när Bruno opererades. Hon berättade att så vitt de kunde se var testikeltumören godartad (avgränsad med en bindvävsliknande kapsel och en klar gräns mellan de olika vävnadstyperna) och dessa metastaserar oftast inte. Hans mjälte hade lymfatisk cellhyperplasi utan tecken på lymfom eller metastaser och verkar också godartad. Vi håller nu tummarna att hans kvarvarande testikel inte förlorat sin spermieproducerande funktion.

It's been a rather miserable beginning of this week. Four days ago Bruno was diagnosed with cancer in one of his testicles. He underwent an operation shortly afterwards, where the affected testicle was removed. This was done since the other testicle showed no tumour signs, and hopefully he will be able to sire more litters in the future. Knowing the negative effects of castration, this was also a reason I wanted to keep the other testicle as long as possible. I am of course, aware of the increased risk, and we'll deal with it later - should that situation arise.

The removed testicle has been sent for analysis to establish the nature of the tumour, however, the investigations done before the surgery revealled no obvious metastases. Some abnormalities detected in his spleen during one of the ultrasonic scans have also been sent for analysis. We're eagerly awaiting the results of both these. In the meantime, we're so happy our Special little guy is still with us and hopefully for some time. But I can assure you, sleeping has not been easy and many tears have been shed.

Once he's completely recovered, I will have semen collected from him and stored, to assure this lovely dog will not disappear from the Cocker gene pool.

Den blev en jobbig start på den här veckan. För fyra dagar sedan konstaterades att Bruno utvecklat cancer i en av sina testiklar. Han genomgick en operation strax efteråt där man avlägsnade den drabbade testikeln. Anledningen till att båda inte togs bort var att den andra visade inga tecken på tumör och eftersom jag vet vilka negativa biverkningar som kan komma av kastrering kände jag att det var bäst att låta den andra vara kvar så länge som möjligt. Förhoppningsvis kommer han nu även att kunna producera några kullar till, men jag är naturligtvis medveten om den ökade risk som finns att cancern ska drabba även den numera tillsynes friska testikeln.

Den avlägsnade testikeln har skickats på analys för att fastställa tumörens art, däremot visade undersökningarna innan operationen inga tecken på metastaser. Man upptäckte dock under ett av ultraljuden att hans mjälte hade förändringar i sig och även dessa har skickats iväg för analys. Vi väntar spänt på resultaten från båda dessa. Under tiden är vi väldigt glada att vår älskling fortfarande är med oss, och förhoppningsvis kommer att vara ett tag till. Men jag kan försäkra er om att det inte varit lätt att sova och många tårar har fällts.

När han väl är helt återställd, ska jag låta samla sperma från honom och spara, för att försäkra mig om att denna underbara hund inte försvinner från cockergenpoolen.

Another very busy and stressful week culminated in the Mälardalens Cockerklubb's Open Show at Barva (as usual, however, a new venue is planned for next year) on Saturday. Judging was the very nice and friendly Mr Rune Johansen (TIMANKA).

Since I had the overall responsibility for this show I tried to be seen as little as possible in the ring. However, according to the regulations for open shows, I was allowed to both enter and show dogs. Fortunately, as I was much engaged elsewhere, Anneli showed Letty. This was her first outing in Puppy Class (her two previous being in Minor Puppy). She was placed last, beaten by much older puppies. Her brothers Texas and Willow (Blue Runes Spirit of the Sea & Blue Runes Wind in the Willows) were also there, being placed 2nd and 3rd out 3 - no HPs. They need more time to develop...

Next show attended by the CHOC ICE Team will be 27-28 March, where for the very first time 3 Bruno daughters (in 3 different colours) will be seen in the ring.

Ytterligare en stressig vecka slutade den här gången i Mälardalens Cockerklubbs inofficiella utställning i Barva (som vanligt, men till nästa år planeras en ny plats) i lördags. Domare var den trevlige och vänlige Rune Johansen (TIMANKA).

Eftersom jag var utställningskommissarie försökte jag synas i ringen så lite som möjligt. Däremot säger reglerna att jag får "både ställa ut och visa hund". Eftersom jag var mycket upptagen på annat håll visade Anneli Letty. Det här var första gången för henne i Valpklass 2. Hon placerades sist, slagen av mycket äldre valpar. Hennes bröder Texas och Willow (Blue Runes Spirit of the Sea & Blue Runes Wind in the Willows) deltog också, och blev 2:a resp. 3:a av 3 - utan HP. De behöver mer tid att utvecklas...

Busy Days/Hektiska dagar

I have not updated this blog for ages, at least so it seems. At the moment I'm very busy dealing with all the things related to our Cocker Show in 2 weeks time - and believe me, that's a lot! This upcoming weekend I'll be attending another Breed Conference organised by the Cocker Spanielklubben (I believe I have attended all of them?) as well as the Annual Meeting the following day. Who knows, you might be reading the lines of the new Breed Counsellor. ;)

Jag har inte uppdaterat den här bloggen på evigheter, åtminstone känns det så. Kommande helg kommer jag att närvara på ännu en avelskonferens organiserad av Cocker Spanielklubben (jag tror faktiskt att jag varit med på samtliga?) samt årsmötet följande dag.
